50th Anniversary of the 1964 World's Fair

2014 marks the 50th Anniversary of the 1964 World's Fair in New York City.  Why would a railroad historical society care about this you ask?  Well, two of our cars, the Franklin Inn, which DCNRHS returned to service in 2011, and the Collinsville Inn, were rebuilt along with 48 other Inn series cars  by the Pennsylvania Railroad (PRR) for this World's Fair.  The PRR expected to have significantly increased traffic the event.  The picture on the left is from a 1964 PRR Timetable.

We are still working to return the Collinsville Inn to service; our biggest challenge now to completing the project is funding.  We need to raise about $25,000 dollars to address recently announced Amtrak standards for wheels.  Donations of any amount would be appreciated and can be made on-line (click on the paypal link on our Collinsville Inn page) or mailed to Collinsville Inn Restoration Project, c/o DCNRHS, P. O. Box 230, Savage, MD 20753. All donations are tax deductible to the maximum extent permitted by the Internal Revenue Code. Please make checks payable to DCNRHS.

With your help, we can do this!
