On March 22 Chapter representative Jim Lilly presented a photo frame to CSX Trainmaster Jarred Rahn at the Jessup, MD Yard Office. The plaque is in appreciation for Team Jessup's important role in enabling DCNRHS' rail operations across four decades. Jessup has been part of moving our cars to Washington, D.C. since the 1980s. The photos depict our Amtrak certified cars and include pictures of CSX handling our cars. The citation reads:
"The Washington, D.C. Chapter, Inc.
National Railway Historical Society
Presents this certificate and photo frame to
The Men & Women of CSX Jessup Yard, MD
In recognition and appreciation for four decades of outstanding service to the Chapter and our historic railroad cars
Dover Harbor, Franklin Inn, and Collinsville Inn
March 22, 2016
The thirtieth year of our cars’ operations on the mainlines of America."
May of 2016 marks the 30th anniversary of the Dover Harbor's first Amtrak qualified trip, but DCNRHS has been running the car since the early 1980s when the car was based at the former Silver Spring B&O Station. In 1989 we left that location for a short stint in Baltimore, and in 1990 our new base of operations became a location near Jessup, MD. CSX Jessup has handled the switching for DCNRHS to and from Union Station throughout this entire period.
Photos in the picture are by Alex Mayes, David Scavone, and Jim Lilly. The frame was put together by Chapter member and volunteer Mary Ries.
Thank you Team CSX.
