Virginia Railway Express has placed in service the first of 19 MP36PH-3Cs diesels it has ordered from Motive Power Industries. These are the first new diesels for VRE, all other diesels on their roster are rebuilt units. The new arrival, VRE No. V50, began making revenue runs in early August on the Fredericksburg Line. The 3,600 HP MP36PH-3Cs are more efficient and powerful than their rebuilt diesels, and can haul ten-car trains versus the six-car train s VRE currently run. On August 20, 2010 the V50 powered VRE train No. 307 to Fredericksburg, seen here arriving at the Alexandria , VA VRE/Amtrak station.
