March 20, 2020 7:30 PM Union Station and Life in the Nation's Capital Alexandria History Museum at the Lyceum Author Bill Wright will preview Now Arriving Washington: Union Station and Life in the Nation’s Capital which will be published in 2021 by the Georgetown University Press. Free and open to the public. 200320  The book will show how Washington’s grand terminal has been deeply connected to almost every aspect of life in the city – transportation, politics and government, urban design, economics, and social patterns — since its opening in 1907. Despite many changes in its operations, Union Station has remained the building that reveals more about life in modern Washington than any other, simultaneously reflecting and shaping the development of the capital and, in many cases, the country. Bill was a graduate student in American history at Duke University and the University of North Carolina and has shared the station’s story through tours, articles and presentations, and a smartphone app that enables visitors to guide themselves through more than 100 years of history.
