MONTHLY PROGRAMS
 
DCNRHS monthly programs are held on the third Friday of the month at 8:00 PM. The locations alternate between the George Washington Masonic National Memorial in Alexandria, VA and the B&O Railroad Station in Silver Spring, MD. Two exceptions are the April (banquet month) and September (Picnic month) when the locations are announced in advance of the event. The location is always announced on our web site. The programs are free and open to the public. The banquet is also open to the public. The programs are a usually railroad based and include items such as railroad history, railroad operations, preservation, photography, travel, etc.

May 17, 2013 8:00 PM Goals of Virginians for High Speed Rail GWNMM-Alexandria, VA Danny Plaugher is Executive Director of Virginians for High Speed Rail, a grassroots 501 (C)(3) non-profit that advocates for Higher Speed Rail by educating our lawmakers and fellow citizens about the benefits of high speed rail in Virginia. Danny will discuss near and long term goals of VHSR and answer your questions on implementation of rail initiatives in Virginia. Free and open to the public! 
June 21, 2013 8:00 PM Railroad Museums in the Netherlands Part II: Trams, Trolleys and Industrial Narrow Gauge Silver Spring, MD B&O Station Hans Plugge will present a digital program on his 2012 trip to the Netherlands. This edition will feature tramways - steam/diesel operations whether on broad or narrow gauge that were planned independent of the national railroad system. A short vignette of a trolley museum is also included. Industrial narrow gauge will be discussed, mostly 60 cm/ 2ft (with some 16 in) showing a variety of steam /diesel locomotives among the 200 plus preserved. Free and open to the public. 
July 19, 2013 8:00 PM Network Centric Railway Operations GWMNM-Alexandria, VA Network Centric Railway Operations, a forward looking perspective on railway operations, PTC, and how networks of sensors and computers will transform railroading. Presented by Steven R. Ditmeyer, Principal Transportation Technology and Economics. Free and open to the public. - BONUS - Come at 7:00pm and get a chance to visit the observation deck of the Masonic Memorial, for FREE! Beautiful views of Norhern Virginia and DC.

MEMBERSHIP RENEWALS AND INQUIRIES
 
  • Dues expire annually on 31 December.  Memberships not renewed by 31 March will be deleted.  Those not renewing by December 31st will not receive the newsletter.
  • Checks should be made payable to "Washington, D.C. Chapter NRHS".
  • Membership renewals should be sent directly to our Membership Director. We in turn will handle your renewal with the National Organization if you are a member of the NRHS through our Chapter.
  • We process renewals on-line via our membership portal.
  • Membership inquiries, including changes of address, telephone, e-mail, etc, should be handled via our membership portal or sent to our membership director:
