The National Railway Historical Society, Washington D.C. Chapter, Inc. presents a

Carolinian Ride!

Saturday, October 29, 2011

Ride south to Charlotte, North Carolina on the state's namesake train-- the Carolinian, in the plush, elegant Pullman comfort of Dover Harbor.  This one way trip gives you the rare opportunity to enjoy traveling aboard DCNRHS' classic 1930s Pullman on this route.

We'll depart Washington's Union Station on Saturday, October 29, 2011 at mid-morning on Amtrak train #79, the Carolinian south over the former Richmond, Fredericksburg & Potomac (now CSX) main line across scenic tidewater tributaries of the Potomac River.  A substantial lunch will be served as we glide down the middle of Main Street in Ashland, Virginia just before arriving at Richmond. Beyond historic Petersburg, our route continues south through southern Virginia on ex-Seaboard Coast Line trackage, closely paralleling Interstate 95.

Pullman Dover Harbor will call at Rocky Mount, NC before heading on to Selma, where the route turns westward through the tobacco fields and to the state Capital at Raleigh where we'll join the historic route of the North Carolina Railroad.  Along the way, we'll meet North Carolina's eastbound Piedmont service. As evening comes, enjoy hors d'oeuvres as we roll through the Carolina Crescent cities of Durham, and Greensboro, prior to an evening arrival and the end of the trip at Charlotte.  You'll then be on your own for dinner in the city and to enjoy the city as you wish before heading home on your own.

PLEASE NOTE:  This trip is a one way trip only, and does not include meals, transfers, or accommodations in Charlotte or northbound return travel to Washington or intermediate points.
