The National Railway Historical Society, Washington, D.C. Chapter, Inc. (DCNRHS) presents Naval Norfolk First Class Private Railcar Journey to NORFOLK, VA From Washington, DC, Friday-Sunday, October 3-5, 2014 SOLD OUT Travel with DCNRHS to Norfolk, a new destination in Southeastern Virginia for our classic 1930’s Pullman rail car DOVER HARBOR. Norfolk's naval history provides plenty of activities for you to enjoy with this 3-day weekend package. The trip’s centerpiece is Saturday’s full day escorted walking tour of Norfolk's naval sights. We'll visit the waterfront maritime museum Nauticus (which also houses the Hampton Roads Naval Museum), tour World War II battleship U.S.S. Wisconsin, see the Korean/World War exhibits at the Douglas MacArthur Memorial and take a great two-hour narrated cruise on board Victory Rover to the Norfolk Naval Base and the site of the 1862 Civil War battle of ironclads Monitor and Merrimac. Saturday evening you'll be free to explore on your own; take in dinner at a downtown Norfolk restaurant, ride the Tide Light Rail System, or perhaps even ferry across the harbor for an evening among the historic homes in Old Towne Portsmouth. Saturday’s tour is bookended by comfortable first class travel aboard Dover Harbor, which leaves Washington’s Union Station late Friday afternoon, October 3rd, with Amtrak’s Northeast Regional #125. Sip cocktails and savor supper served by our white jacketed stewards as we travel south. On arrival at Norfolk's Harbor Park Station, a waiting motor coach transfers our group to the Marriott Courtyard Downtown, your home for the weekend.
