The National Railway Historical Society, Washington DC Chapter, Incorporated presents

The New National Capital Trolley Museum

Saturday, November 20, 2010

Have you ridden a street car in Washington?  Most likely not, since street car service ended in Washington DC in January, 1962.  Since 1959, the National Capitol Trolley Museum has kept their memory alive.  Recently, this museum moved into new facilities.  Here's your chance to learn about the street cars of the Nation's Capitol, and a few more from places beyond. Join us at 1:30PM on Saturday, November 20, 2010 at the National Capitol Trolley Museum Visitor Center in Wheaton MD for a special afternoon tour of the beautiful new museum facilities just for our group.  Our visit will include a guided tour of Street Car Hall which houses the museum's Washington DC, American and International car collections.  We'll also get a behind-the-scenes tour of the Museum's maintenance facility which is not normally open to the public.  The high point of the afternoon will be a ride on one of the Museum's historic street cars for our group. By the date of our tour, the museum expects to be operating over the full length of the new streetcar route.  Your tour fare also includes admission to these parts of the museum which you can tour on your own: the Museum's Main Exhibit Hall, showcasing street car history and their influence on the development of the Washington DC area; a special exhibit and film short-- Streetcars Go to the Movies, featuring silent film star Harold Lloyd; and Conduit Hall, where you can learn about the generation, control and transfer of electric power which made street cars go.  Just think--- you'll then know what a plow pit is!Come see and ride the street cars with us!
