Join us for a mid-Autumn
journey aboard Dover Harbor to the coastal Deep South. We’ll depart from Washington’s Union Station Thursday morning, October 30th with Amtrak’s
Palmetto via the former Atlantic Coast Line route of The Havana
Special, Florida Special and the Champions to a final destination
of Savannah, Georgia in late evening. Once on board relax and enjoy
the full range of the comfortable lounge and bedroom seating. Our
staff will serve lunch and dinner along with a selection of snacks
and drinks.
With this rail only trip,
you can select your own tour destination—Charleston or Savannah.
Both cities offer a wide range of sites and events whether your
interests are in culture, railroads, colonial and revolutionary
history, antebellum and civil war history, or modern history. Both
offer a variety of modern sophisticated cuisines, low country specialties,
or opportunities to explore the differences in Georgia and South
Carolina barbeques.
You might want to taxi
to a downtown hotel in either city and tour either of these compact,
interesting cities on foot. Neither city requires a car to see
many of the architectural and historic sites. Alternatively, rent
a car-- Hertz has a reimbursed taxi arrangement for both Charleston
and Savannah Amtrak stations to get you to their nearby airport
rental facilities (reservations required). With a rental car, you
can stay at a hotel more convenient to outlying sites or the beaches.

We’ll return north via Amtrak’s
Palmetto to Washington DC on Sunday, November 2nd departing Savannah
in early morning and Charleston mid-morning to an evening arrival
in Washington DC. Northbound meal service will consist of a delectable
brunch and dinner for both Savannah and Charleston passengers.

CONDITIONS
1. The Washington DC Chapter, NRHS makes every effort to accommodate the
physically challenged; however, Dover Harbor, as a historic railroad
car, is not wheelchair accessible. Operator requires those passengers
requiring special assistance from others to travel with someone
who is able to assist them. Please contact the reservations
agent for further information regarding your specific needs.
2.
No refund of purchased tickets after September 15, 2008, other
than by operator's cancellation of the trip or reselling of the
space. The operator suggest that passengers obtain trip insurance
to cover cancellations resulting from personal emergencies, illness
or other causes.
3. Reservations are not transferable and may not
be resold without the written consent of the operator.
4. Package
does not include gratuities, personal incidental charges, tours,
local transportation or accommodations in Charleston or Savannah,
or meals except for meal service as described while on board Dover
Harbor.
5. Train schedules and routing are subject to change without
notice. Operator and Amtrak reserve the right to substitute equipment.
6. Passengers may board or disembark at any intermediate station
stop; please notify ticket agent if you are planning to board or disembark at stations other than Washington, D.C.
7. Passengers with special
dietary needs must notify the ticket agent in writing at least
two weeks in advance of the trip.
8. A $35 fee will be assessed
for checks returned for insufficient funds.
