New York Weekend!
Friday, August 24, 2007 to Sunday, August 26, 2007

The National Railway Historical Society, Washington D.C. Chapter, Inc. presents a New York Weekend! Friday, August 24, 2007 to Sunday, August 26, 2007

We'll take Manhattan, the Bronx and Staten Island too... as our group travels to New York City. Our weekend trip starts with a late-morning departure from Washington Union Station on Friday, August 24, 2007 on Amtrak's train #20, the Crescent. Enjoy a lunch en route prior to a mid-afternoon arrival in New York. A short walk takes us to the Hampton Inn Madison Square Garden, conveniently located in Midtown Manhattan for our weekend stay.

Starting on Friday afternoon, there'll be plenty of time enjoy the Big Apple. You'll be able to take a leisurely free ride to see Lady Liberty from the Staten Island Ferry, and perhaps visit the exquisite Chinese Scholar's Garden at the Staten Island Botanical Garden while there.

It's lovely going through the zoo... on your way around Central Park, or, perhaps to even the Bronx. It's very fancy, On old Delancey Street you know. Or at any number of the fine dining establishments around town. Savor the many fine foods, then stroll up the Great White Way to a Broadway Show as only you can in New York.

The subway charms us so, When balmy breezes blow to and fro... Definitely that is, for the railfan. With an inexpensive all-day pass, you can explore the extents of the system, and perhaps even ...take a sail on Jamaica Bay, catch some sun at Brighton Beach, or savor a hot dog at Coney Island.

Fifth Avenue may beckon, so shop, shop til you drop. Tiffany's, Bergdorf's, Saks, or, closer at hand to the Hampton Inn, the biggest of them all, Macy's. And there's more to explore with the city's museums, museums, museums! We'll turn Manhattan into an isle of joy!

Sleep in on Sunday, August 26, 2007 prior to a late morning departure; we'll head south with Amtrak's train #91, the Silver Star once again in the comfortable confines of Dover Harbor. Enjoy a light lunch on the way back to an afternoon arrival in Washington.
